Safety-at-Sea training in Obi Island

DSC_7520_final_group_picOn October 1st, 2017 MDPI in partnership with USAID SEA and local suppliers, organized a Safety-at-Sea training for the fishermen of Obi Island (Eastern Indonesia). The training started with welcoming remarks from the head of the village and representatives from USAID SEA.

This was the first Safety-at-Sea training in this village and was conducted by the National Search and Rescue Agency of Indonesia (Basarnas) during which fishermen were given life vests, first aid boxes and Safety-at-Sea handbooks. Additionally, fishermen were trained in fish handling, best fishing practices and garbage disposal.

The day ended with a community event (movie screening) which 85 people attended.
